Final Statement of the Churches for the planet Symposium

Churches for Planet” Symposium Statement – Milan, September 18-20, 2015

We, Christians of various denominations (coming from Austria, Belarus, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Switzerland, Romania and the United States), gathered at the Waldensian Church of Milan for the “Churches for Planet” Symposium organized by and for churches that have undertaken the “Green Rooster”/EMAS III environmental certification scheme with the intent of putting the Scriptural exhortation “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it” (Genesis 2:15) into practice by reducing our communities’ environmental impact, following our discussions, particularly on the following four themes:

  1. Nutrition and Shopping

  2. Climate Change and Climate Justice

  3. Living out a Commitment to Caring for Creation with Joy and Responsibility

  4. From Church to Home: Churches as Multipliers of Transformation

do believe that caring for creation is one of the fundamental issues for Christians;

that our purchasing and nutrition habits have to change. We have to prefer seasonal, regional, organic and fairtrade products;

that climate change and poverty are linked and the biggest challenge of our time.

Therefore we are aware of the urgency of changing our lifestyles at once, to be an example for others.

The money we spend speaks an ecological language.

We commit to bringing our change into society as agents of transformation.
